The Power of Yoga

Today marks Day 6 back at yoga (and day 4 of my current G.I.T. Streak).  I’ve gone through Expert Flexibility and am FINALLY beginning to get some muscle memory back.  I switched over from the long routine to the short today, which seems to save me about 10 minutes of time, leaving me just enough time for a round of boxing to get me as good and awake as I can be without caffeine.

Which turned out to be a great thing because my brain was actually WORKING this morning.  By the time I sat down with my scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast, and big ass mug of tea to talk to Susan, I opened our chat with a long spiel of a) Exactly how Revelation opens, and b) The detailed specifics of how my Riven heroine, Dahlia, was completely humiliated five years ago (in backstory) such that she totally destroyed her career and reputation and how that ties in with the story problem of the current story.  Thank, freaking, God.  Because I’ve been stuck on that for over a year.

So as I was scarfing breakfast, swilling tea (okay really sipping–one does not swill hot tea–that would be very uncivilized), opening a new Write Way Pro file for Revelation, updating my outline for Riven, Susan and I start brainstorming for her Act 2 of Heroes Under Seige.  She’s taking advantage of my being between projects to totally use my brain (because this is where I’m most useful–the “what if…?” phase of thinking about possibilities).  Which, see above, was WORKING.   We are KICKING SOME PLOTTING ASS and moving on into ACT 3.  Booyah!

I am considering the possibility that I’m kinda hyper today.  I’ll probably crash by lunch.

But still!  The blood is flowing and brain is working and I credit it to being BACK TO YOGA because when I was achieving all those awesome word counts in the spring and early summer, it was when I was starting my day with yoga, which seems to leave me remarkably clear headed for a not morning person.  I’m still never gonna be one of those people who wants to carry on a conversation until I’ve had caffeine and some quiet time, but it absolutely leaves me in a better position for Dark and Early words.

  1. I used to do Yoga years ago. I can’t tell you how much better I feel. I really need to get back to New U. It was so hard for me the first time I tried it, I haven’t done it since. I think I was doing the weight loss section. Exercise, including and maybe especially Yoga, definitely stimulates the brain. I need to get back to it.

    Yay on the productivity!

  2. Once we move (and I’m not 45 min away from everything) I plan to start yoga again. I’ve been in 2 car accidents and it really does help my recurring shoulder problem.

    Way to go on the working out!

  3. Wonderful- I need to get back into yoga and walking- I miss it as does my body and brain- Kids go back to school on Monday- everything should even out from there.
