Hill Tracks

I’m tied up in the conference room with more training today, so this is a quickie.

There are 3 major hills on my running route.  Up to this point I’ve mostly been walking up them and running down them.  Yay for the assistance of gravity.  But as I’ve been pushing myself to add more jogging/running bits to the route, I’m kind of down to the hills.  So, knowing the route and the approximate time it takes me to reach them, I did some tweakage to my running playlist.

I hit the first one this morning to The Bridge of Khazad Dum. 

Let me tell you, the threat of orcs on your ass at 6:15 in the morning is a motivating thing (at least when you have the right imagination–see, there was totally a reason I filled my whole playlist with chase and fight scenes).  I hoofed it, insofar as I was capable of hoofing it.  And yeah, I totally still cried when Gandalf went over the edge, even without the visual.  Managed to restrain myself from yelling “Gandalf!”  Wouldn’t want to wake the neighbors. Possibly I have seen this movie one or a dozen too many times?

Hill number two was supposed to be the Whomping Willow.

My time estimation was a bit off, so this one accompanied me on the DOWNSIDE of the hill.

Hill number three is always the worst.  It’s not nearly as big as Hill two, but it’s the last one, the  point where I am totally dragging my ass and having a hard time lifting my feet enough to shuffle them forward another step and another. My preferred accompaniment to that is the Distillery Fight from Blood and Chocolate, which I am having total fail on from Youtube. But I love that rise in tempo and melody…it kind of goes along with that last, gasping push.

  1. I don’t LIKE to run to anything. LOL I’ve seriously thought about starting to run on my treadmill, then branching out to the outside world when it’s warmer. I could switch that out with bike riding to keep it interesting. But I HAVE to get some better shoes. I thought these were great until I went to Disney World and my feet hurt so badly that I was miserable. Let me know how you like your new ones.

    As much as you used to hate to run, it’s great to see you keeping this up!

  2. I had a personal trainer last year for a while, and her big thing was connecting my mind with my body. She taught me to connect my breathing with my stride (or my stumble/shuffle, depending on the day!) and to concentrate on making each stride as efficient as possible. Music is not allowed in this method…but sometimes I do music anyway. 🙂 It’s usually upbeat pop music from the 90’s and early 00’s, like Brittany Spears, Backstreet Boys, and N’Sync… What can I say? You like what you like! But I love the idea of running to various chase music…very motivating. 🙂 Might have to give that a shot! 🙂

  3. Oh I love your taste in music. I prefur soundtracks and classical over the stuff with words, words seem to distract me and I tend to sing along. That is normally not a good thing.
